ATHLETICS… Britain finished the INAS-FID World Athletics Championships in Brazil with seven medals – including three golds – which also placed them third in the overall table behind Poland and Portugal. Allan Stuart won gold and set a new world record in the 200m, a result which saw him awarded performance of the championships, whilst Monique Davis won the 100m and took silver in the 400m. There were also medals for the women's 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams. "This was an excellent performance from the whole team" said Team Manager Paul Burns. "To win seven medals and finish third in the medal table with only 13 athletes is an amazing performance. In addition we broke one World record, two national records and set eight personal bests. GOLF… England's men and women have both claimed the Senior Home International titles. The women beat Ireland 5-2 in their final game following victories over Wales and Scotland to retain their trophy, whilst the men overcame defending champions Scotland 5-4 to win their crown. HOCKEY… Following the invitation to Britain's Men to participate in the Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur next month, the initial programmes for both the men and women have now been finalised. The former will play the Dutch national squad followed by training camps prior to their departure to Malaysia on 17 November, whilst the women will have two training camps this month, which will include three matches against an Australian A touring side. MODERN PENTATHLON… Great Britain finished the World Biathlon Championships on top of the medal table after a total of 24 medals were claimed. Nine World Champions were crowned across the disciplines, including Richard Stannard in the senior men – his second title in three years. SQUASH… Nick Matthew overcame compatriot James Willstrop in the final of the US Open in New York, to claim his first PSA Super Series title. The 27-year-old was too strong for Willstrop, winning 11-7 11-4 11-7 in under an hour. "Nick was absolutely outstanding tonight," said Willstrop. "I've played him on so many occasions, and I've never seen him play so well. He was just far too good, and I couldn't do anything against him so no excuses," he added. Elsewhere, England beat defending champions Australia on the first day of the World Deaf Team Championships, whilst Scotland overcame South Africa. More@ England Squash
TRIATHLON… Britain's Alistair Brownlee and Andrea Whitcombe both finished on the podium at the Rhodes World Cup. The 19-year-old Brownlee exited the swim in the front pack and held his position in the run, which came down to a sprint finish between him and New Zealand's Kris Gemmell – who broke away from Brownlee with just 300m left. Meanwhile, Whitcombe also won silver, finishing behind Vanessa Fernandes of Portugal. "I'm very pleased with my race. It's been a long season and all the girls are getting tired, so to finish the year so strongly gives me good motivation to carry through the winter training," she said. More@ British Triathlon
VOLLEYBALL… British Volleyball's men's squad will play their first match of the season as Club Martinus in the Dutch Pro A league this Saturday, when they face a tough test against reigning champions Piet Zommers/D.
