BASKETBALL… Great Britain beat Belarus 83-51 in Minsk last night to qualify for the play-offs of Europe's Division B. Luol Deng scored 27 points as Britain avenged their opponents one point win last September. They will now face one of Georgia, Finland, Switzerland or Romania in a two-leg tie next week. CANOEING… Britain's canoeists won four medals at the Junior & U23 European Flatwater Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, at the weekend. Jessica Walker won gold in the women's K1 500m before teaming up with Amoret King to claim silver in the K2 1000m. Jonnie Schofield and Ben Brown won bronze in the 500m kayak double event, as did Kristian Reeve in the men's K1 class. Meanwhile, Anna Hemmings is set to defend her title in the women's K1 at the World Marathon Championships this weekend, in Gyor, Hungary. Hemmings also teams up with Louise Sawers in the K2, whilst Walker and King will race again in the Junior K2. More@ GB Canoeing
CYCLING… Nicole Cooke is on the verge of winning her third World Cup title, after extending her lead in the overall standings to 80 points with just one race remaining. Cooke finished second behind Noemi Cantele in the Grand Prix de Plouay in France at the weekend, claiming 50 points in the process. Her nearest rival for the crown, Marianne Vos, finished seventh, leaving Cooke to go into the final race in Nurnberg, Germany with the considerable lead. Elsewhere, David Millar won the British Time Trial Championship after finishing in a time of 56 minutes and 57 seconds. Chris Newton came second and Michael Hutchinson third. More@ British Cycling
DISABILITY SAILING… The double World Championship-winning Sonar crew of John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Stephen Thomas will be looking to complete an unprecedented treble when the 2007 IFDS World Disabled Sailing Championships get underway in Rochester, USA tomorrow. With the Beijing Paralympics only 12 months away, and the Championships forming part of the British selection process for those Games, the trio will be looking to make it three consecutive titles. Great Britain will have 18 competitors battling it out for medals in the three Paralympic classes, with Helena Lucas and Megan Pascoe hoping to make the podium in the 2.4mR class, and Allan Smith and Jackie Gay competing in the new two-person SKUD-18s which are making their debut at the Championships. DIVING… Great Britain claimed their first medal of the FINA Diving World Series over the weekend in the Men's 3m synchronised dive. Ben Swain and Nicholas Robinson-Baker were competing against the World's best springboard divers and claimed bronze in the final. Elsewhere, Britain's young divers showed their potential with excellent performances from Thomas Daley in the men's 10m individual and Tonia Couch and Stacie Powell in the Women's 10m synchronised dive. The FINA World Diving Series is one of 20 major events in 2007 to be part-funded by UK Sport's National Lottery backed World Class Events Programme. More @ British Swimming
EQUESTRIAN… William Fox-Pitt won his third Burghley Horse Trials at the weekend. Victory was achieved with Parkmore Ed who surprised Fox-Pitt. "I am so chuffed for Ed but I can't believe he won it. Burghley may have been too soon for him but he proved it wasn't," he said. Polly Stockton came second on Tom Quigley, and Andrew Hoy of Australia was third on Master Monarch. More@ British Eventing
EVENT TICKETS… UK Sport has launched a 'Ticket Booth' on its website where governing bodies and event organisers are encouraged to advertise forthcoming sport events being staged in the UK. Over time this should build up into a comprehensive guide to all national and international level events, with the aim of encouraging more people to go and watch live sport in their local area. GYMNASTICS… Britain's women surpassed all expectations after they qualified for the team final at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. The team of Beth Tweddle, Rebecca Downie, Hannah Clowes, Aisling Williams, Marissa King and Rebecca Wing finished seventh with a score of 169.175. The qualification also meant they secured an Olympic berth at next year's Beijing Games. In addition, Tweddle qualified both for the A. Bars and the Floor Finals, as well as the All-around Final, which takes place tomorrow. "It would mean everything to me if I could win here, but my main focus was to help the team to qualify for the Olympics," said Tweddle. More@ British Gymnastics
HOCKEY… Scotland's women are through to the semi-finals of the EuroHockey Nations Trophy after winning all three of their group games in Lithuania. They got their Championship level promotion campaign off to the best possible start with a 4-2 win against the Czech Republic before Louise Carroll scored a last minute winner in a 3-2 win over the host nation. A 3-1 win over Russia yesterday maintained their 100% record and they now face Belgium tomorrow in the last four – a team they beat twice last month. More@ Scottish Hockey

SHOOTING… Steve Scott secured Britain's fifth Quota place for next year's Beijing Olympic Games at the ISSF World Shotgun Championships in Cyprus. Scott qualified for the final of the men's double trap in sixth place with a score of 141. His final round score of 48 saw him shoot-off for third with Joshua Richmond of the USA but he was narrowly beaten 4-3. However, Scott did reach the podium with Richard Faulds and Peter Wilson, as they claimed bronze in the team event behind Italy and China. Elsewhere, Britain won the Palma Match by a margin of 25 points from South Africa at the World Long Range Championships in Ottawa. David Luckman also became the individual World Champion, whilst there were also wins for the Veterans and U25 teams in their respective Championships. More@ British Shooting
TAEKWONDO… Britain has selected the squad of four who will compete at the 2007 World Qualification Event for next year's Olympic Games in Manchester later this month. Three times European Champion Sarah Stevenson will compete in the +67kg class, whilst Louise Mair will go in the -49kg category. For the men, Tony Grisman will represent Britain in the -68kg class, with 16-year-old Aaron Cook competing in the -80kg. "The athletes have trained exceptionally hard and proven their talents over a period of time. With only four places available selection has been incredibly competitive, but we've got a great balance of youth and experience in the side and if we can perform to the best of our abilities then we're hopeful of some very strong performances," said Gary Hall, Performance Director for BTCB Sport Taekwondo UK Ltd. TABLE TENNIS… Darius Knight beat Paul Drinkhall in the final of the men's singles at the Madeira Open – just three days after his opponent had beaten him in the junior event. In the final, Knight recovered from being two games down to win 8-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9. England also won gold in the team event. More@ English Table Tennis
WHEELCHAIR TENNIS… Peter Norfolk gets his US Open challenge underway later today when the Quad Singles get underway at Flushing Meadows. Norfolk's first match will be against World No 4 Sarah Hunter of Canada, with the event concluding on Sunday. Meanwhile, Britain's Philip Cochrane won the junior singles crown at the Citta di Livorno tournament in Italy, beating the host nation's Ivan Dion 6-2 7-5 in the final. It capped a good week for the 13-year-old who had earlier reached the semi-finals of the men's second draw singles in his first major international world-ranking event.
