ARCHERY… Former international archer Hilda Gibson has been appointed Team Manager of the British archery squad for next year's Olympic Games in Beijing. Gibson will be responsible for the smooth running of the British camp before, during and after the archery competition in Beijing, working with Head Coach Peter Suk. GNAS chairman Lynne Evans said the appointment was unanimous among board members: "Hilda commands enormous respect as an archer, a person and an organiser. She is tailor made for the job, and the archers and coaches in Beijing will be much better off for having her with them." More@ The Grand National Archery Society
ATHLETICS… Mark Hollinshead has been re-appointed to the post of Chair of Scottish Athletics for a further two year term. Hollinshead joined the Board of Scottish Athletics in 2003 as a non-Executive Director with responsibility for Marketing in 2003 and was first appointed Chair in November 2005. His re-appointment comes on the eve of the decision for the 2014 Commonwealth Games that could present athletics with the unique opportunity of a home Olympic and Commonwealth Games within a seven year span: "The 2014 Games will without doubt become a catalyst to inspire a generation of athletes to perform and compete at the highest level. As a sport we will aim high and seek to gain 100 per cent representation in every event. That is our goal," said Hollinshead. More@ Scottish Athletics
DISABILITY SHOOTING… Britain won three medals at the Para- Oceania Continental Shooting Championships in Australia. Deanna Coates won silver in the R2 10m air rifle standing, whilst Nathan Milgate claimed bronze in the R3 10m air rifle mixed prone and Karen Butler emulated him in the R8 50m sport rifle .22. FENCING… Corinna Lawrence was the highest British finisher at the European Junior U20 Fencing Championships in Prague. Lawrence came seventh in the women's epee after losing 15/12 to the Ukraine's Anfisa Pochkalova in the quarter-finals. Elsewhere in the women's epee team competition, Britain came fourth. Meanwhile Britain's Cadet (U17) fencers enjoyed success at several international events, with James Davis winning the two day Halle International cadet foil event and Jessica Davies and Sophie Williams both claiming bronze in Kenten women's cadet sabre. GYMNASTICS… Daniel Keatings won the senior overall title at the men's British Championships at the weekend. The 17-year-old has already won European silver this year and will look to add to his honours this year at the Glasgow Grand Prix from tomorrow. Luke Folwell took silver and Ross Brewer won bronze. HOCKEY… Great Britain Hockey has this week released the names of the 24 athletes who will be training towards the 2008 Olympic Games. The squad includes six uncapped players by Great Britain, three of whom are yet to receive a cap for their respective Home Nation. Charlotte Craddock, Susie Gilbert and Sam Quek are all uncapped by England and Great Britain. Laura Bartlett who has 17 Scottish caps, Jo Ellis who has 18 English caps and Hayley Brown who has six English caps are all yet to earn their first Great Britain appearance. All players, with the exception of Ellis, were part of the Great Britain Youth squad who won the gold medal at the 2007 Australian Youth Olympic Festival. Meanwhile, Roger Self has retired as the President of Great Britain Hockey Limited on the grounds of ill-health. MAJOR EVENTS… UK Sport's 'Event Managers Education and Development Programme' resumes today in Glasgow, with delegates from around the UK attending the second two-day CPD workshop. Coordinated by UK Sport's World Class Events Team, the programme commenced in March this year and provides sport and event managers from the UK's National Governing Bodies with an events networking forum which focuses on sharing best practice methods and capacity building amongst sports for the successful hosting of major events. This week's forum features presentations on financial and operational risk management strategies, sports presentation, and an insight into how a temporary international arena was created for the 2006 World Rowing Championships.
NETBALL… England's squad are in the midst of their final preparations for the World Championships which get underway on Saturday. The 12-strong group is led by Amanda Newton and go into the event with confidence high following back to back series wins over South Africa and Jamaica. SWIMMING… Andrew Lindsay, James Anderson and Nyree Lewis all set world records at the DSE Short Course Swimming Championships in Sheffield. Lindsay won the S7 men's 100m backstroke in a world record time of one minute 14.47 seconds, Anderson set his records in winning the 100m and 200m S2 freestyle races, and Lewis beat the world mark in the SM6 100m. Sam Hynd, 16, and Eleanor Simmonds, 13, also beat the world record in their events. More@ British Swimming

VOLLEYBALL… Britain's men – as Club Martinus – are preparing for a double header this weekend as they take on Landstede Volleyball away and DOC Stap Orion at home, looking for their first victory in the Dutch league. Meanwhile, the Beach Volleyball International season drew to a close in Thailand, with Lucy Boulton and Denise Johns losing out in qualification. The duo will now train in preparation for next year's internationals ahead of the Beijing qualification deadline in July. More@ Volleyball England
