ARCHERY… India's women team and Great Britain's men won the historic tri-nations archery tournament staged at Lords on Monday, which also included China. The event was part of the continuing partnership that Archery GB has developed with the MCC since London won the right to host the 2012 Olympic Games, when Lords is host venue for the archery tournament. ATHLETICS… Britain's David Weir won the 1500m wheelchair race at Friday's Norwich Union London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace. Taking the lead in the final lap, the world record holder finished in a time of 3 minutes 23.29 seconds; "now I just need to prepare slowly and steadily and build up my body ahead of Osaka," he said. Spectators at Crystal Palace also witnessed Jason Gardener's final 100m on home soil with the 31-year-old announcing he will quit outdoor athletics at the end of the summer after a poor run with injuries. CANOEING… The World Championships taking place from today in Duisburg, Germany, will have extra significance for the GB team as a qualifying event for the 2008 Beijing Olympics. CYCLING… Great Britain's Christian Lyte and Peter Mitchell both finished on the podium in Mexico in the Men's Sprint, providing the final highlight of a highly successful UCI Junior World Track Championships 2007 campaign for the team. DRUG-FREE SPORT… UK Sport has submitted feedback to WADA on the International Standard for Laboratories and the International Standard for Testing as part of the ongoing consultation on the revised World Anti-Doping Code and accompanying Standards. GYMNASTICS… Great Britain has tasted success ahead of the World Championships with a victory in the three-way International against Switzerland and the Netherlands in Ipswich this week. The British Men's Team secured victory with a total of 354.55 points, with the Swiss in second (353.85) and the Dutch in third place (344.9). The Men's Technical Committee Chair, Trevor Low said: "For the GBR challenge to improve World Championships rankings this result is crucial as it gives huge confidence and belief that the gymnasts are good enough to join the first division of world gymnastics." INTERNATIONAL… International Development through Sport (IDS), UK Sport's Charity, uses the power of sport to transform the lives of some of the world's poorest children by giving them the chance to play sport. JUDO… Britain's visually impaired judo squad returned from the International Blind Sports Association (IBSA) World Championships and Games in Brazil with a bronze and silver medal. Paralympic silver medalist Ian Rose, made progress towards Beijing by taking bronze in the 100kg category while newcomer Samuel Ingram - competing at his second major international competition - took silver after losing in the final to Athens 2004 Paralympic Games silver medalist Oleg Kretsul of Russia. MOUNTAIN BIKING… British Cycling is to extend the number of British riders who will compete at the 2007 World Championships in September. Following negotiations with UK Sport, British Cycling's Performance Director, Dave Brailsford, has agreed a special one-off dispensation for British Cycling to expand the team for the first world championships on home soil. Brailsford noted that the situation warranted this course of action: "It has been agreed, as a one-off, that we can select additional riders free from the performance-related goals which normally govern GB Team selection in Olympic disciplines. PARALYMPIC SHOOTING… Britain's Paralympic shooters claimed a silver and three bronzes at the Open European Championships in Germany. Di Coates won silver in the European women's 10m R2 air rifle event, bettering her bronze of two years ago, while James Bevis took bronze in both the Open and European rankings in the R5 mixed 10m air rifle. TRIATHLON… Britain's Michelle Dillon and Tim Don emerged victorious from the weekend's Michelob ULTRA London Triathlon, held at the ExCel Centre in London's Docklands. Don pulled away from the lead bunch at the 6km mark and ran to victory ahead of Stuart Hayes (GBR) and Matt Reed (USA). Dillon came from 90 seconds down after the swim to the front of the chase bike pack, from which she launched her attack of the 10km run, followed by compatriot Andrea Whitcombe in second place. The London Triathlon has regained its status as the World's largest triathlon from Chicago as over 9,100 people finished the weekend's races over a mix of super sprint, sprint, standard distance and relays. UNIVERSITY SPORT... Britain's students got their campaign underway at the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand today. Britain is competing across 14 sports over the next ten days and has taken its largest ever delegation tto Bangkok, with a total of 235 athletes and staff. On the track, the men's 4x100m relay team missed out on a medal by a hundredth of a second as they finished fourth, and in the pool, Michael Rock narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth in the 200m butterfly. Elsewhere, Britain's footballers have got off to good starts, with the men taking four points from their two matches, and the women bouncing back from an opening defeat to China to beat Canada 2-0 this afternoon. Simeon Williamson and Ryan Scott will race in the men's 100m heats tomorrow and Temi Jegede, Britain's sole Taekwondo competitor, also competes. More@ www.busa.org.uk
